Who Is Shaun T?
Before we get too far into the review, let’s take a moment to talk about the program’s creator: Shaun T. He has created several workout programs, but his most successful claim to fame is: Insanity. This program made him widely popular and helped untold numbers of people get into great physical shape.
Insanity was not without its pitfalls though and a lot of people found the workouts to be too time consuming and difficult to execute. If you had the strength and will to persevere the entire course, you would no doubt be in peak shape. However, the fall-out rate was quite high and something was needed to bridge the gap.
This is where Focus T25 came to life and like Insanity, Shaun is there for you from beginning to end.
Shaun does a great job of motivating you throughout each workout and his charisma helps build a bond with his audience. You hear him, you follow his workout, it leaves you tired, but wanting to go round after round. It’s a bit cheesy to admit, but when following the DVDs, it kinda feels like he is there with you. What I like about him is that he does the entire workout with you.
He is not one of those hosts that sits on the sideline watching you sweat. Shaun T, is back and likable as ever in T25.
What is Focus T25?
Focus T25 was introduced last year by Beach Body and Shaun T. (more about Shaun T. below). This program bridges the gaps between long time favorites such as Insanity and P90X. However, the program focuses on shorter duration workouts and nutrition in a much more user friendly and practical approach to fitness.
The workouts in Focus T25 last only 25 minutes, with a short 3-5 minute cool-down. This is a great format since it saves a ton of time in comparison of the hour long workouts of Insanity and P90X. The program also introduces modifier exercises that allow anyone of any fitness level to follow along and achieve the same results.
Focus T25 is a DVD based program consisting of 2 primary workout Phases, known as: Alpha and Beta. The Alpha Phase is designed to get you into the practice of things and ramps-up the intensity towards the end to prepare people for the more intensive Beta Phase.
The Beta Phase picks-up where Alpha left off, and works you through a series of faster-paced workouts designed to help strip away more fat and improve your cardio vascular fitness.
The Gamma Phase is an optional 3rd Phase included in the Challenge Pack that focuses mostly on resistance and strength training. This is a great add-on Phase for folks who are looking to build lean muscle and really tone-up.

How Does Focus T25 Work?
It’s hard to imagine that results can be had in as little as 25 minutes. However, there are numerous studies showing that working out at the right intensity and consistency, for shorter periods of time, is actually more effective than traditional gym-goer routines.
Focus T25 works by ramping-up the intensity of the workout over a 25 minute session with a 5 minute cool-down at the end. This allows you to warm-up easily enough and reduces the likelihood of injury. The cool-down makes sure you get a good bit of stretching as well. This ramp of intensity helps to make sure that you stick with it. It also conditions you for the more difficult workouts as you progress.
There are 11 total workouts in the basic package, and each has a modifier move as well. The modifier allows people who are just getting into the program (or starting their fitness journey) to follow an easier version of an exercise until they are ready to take on a more challenging version.
There is always a higher difficulty modifier that suites people who are already in great shape, but want to take their fitness to even higher levels.
This is a great feature that accommodates anyone regardless of gender, age, or fitness level.
What Is The Length Of The Program?
The program is based on a 8 week schedule that can be pushed to 12 by adding the Gamma Cycle on to the end of the program. Adding the Gamma Cycle on to the end of the 8 Week Session is a great way to really get that added bit of toning and definition you might want after completing the main 8 week course.
It is not necessary to do this, because if you follow the nutrition guideline and schedule you will experience great results with just the base 8 weeks. However, for people who like to mix it up, or take things to another level, the Gamma Phase is a beneficial to help you strengthen, tone, and define your physique even more. I’ve done Gamma a few times alone after completing the program. It is a lot of fun and highly effective.
What Equipment Is Needed For Focus T25?
In general, you can go without equipment. This program was designed to be very user friendly and you can start right away without anything. Simply pop-in the DVD and follow along.
The program comes with resistance bands, but If you want to take things to the next level, adding a set of adjustable dumbells, and or a pull-up bar, will make certain you have more than you need. It will also give you the option of following some of the higher difficulty modified exercises if you like.
Just for a bit of clarity, you can do the Gamma cycle with the resistance bands included as part of the upgrade, but I found the best results to be had using adjustable dumbells and a pull-up bar. Again, they are not mandatory. You can definitely get by with the resistance bands included in Gamma upgrade though.

Focus T25 Alpha Cycle
This is the foundation cycle. Lasting just 4 weeks, you will follow 5 workout DVDs designed to prepare you for the more intense Beta Cycle. You can also follow the lean body quick start to get an extra jump on calorie management and make sure you are eating properly to burn fat. Don’t let the Foundation exercises fool you. You will be burning 300 or more calories in 25 minutes.

Focus T25 Beta Cycle
The Beta Cycle builds on the foundation set during the Alpha and really ramps-up the intensity. If you followed the diet plan, kept calories in check, and stayed consistent with the schedule, you will have more than likely seen some results by now. Continued discipline during this phase will make sure you see dramatic gains in fitness and significant fat loss. Don’t slouch during Alpha – you need to take advantage and make sure you have a solid foundation before getting into Beta.

Focus T25 Gamma Cycle
The Gamma Cycle is an optional cycle that brings 3 new workouts and one bonus workout (Speed 3.0). Gamma has one purpose: To get you lean and ripped. Adding the Gamma cycle to the end of your standard 8 week Alpha/Beta program will take results over the top. The focus in Gamma is on strength training and while you will see gains by using the bands, you are best served by adding a pull-up bar and dumbells for the best results.
